MyMemorizer.com is quickly becoming my favorite online calendar app. With intuitive features and smooth, clean graphics, it is pleasant to use. Every calendar should follow MyMemorizer's plan view that shows today and tomorrow's schedules, a task list, and overall view of the next 2 weeks. Other views include standard year and month view s. It has group features, sharing, and allows calendar widgets to be posted into sites. Multiple reminders can be set up for each event, such as reminding you a day before and 15 minutes before. The greatest feature is that event reminders that can be sent to you via email or SMS to your cell phone. That can save the day.
Cumulate Draw is a simple to use web app that behaves just like installed sofware. It is great for simple diagrams and even provides components for flow charts, network diagrams, both Mac and Windows UI, and Workflow diagrams. Don't pirate Microsoft Visio.
GanttPV is an open source alternative to Microsoft Project. I haven't tested it, so I would love to hear what you think.
PDF Creator is a useful app for turning just about anything into a pdf file for storage or transfer. It mounts as a printer driver. Once it is installed, just click print in any application and chose PDF Creator as your printer, chose a filename and you have yourself a pdf file. Don't pirate Adobe Acrobat Pro.
AbiWord is a free word processor with all the necessary features and compatibility with most other word processors. The best part is that it loads faster than any competing app and it doesn't have the bloat of Microsoft Word.
Zoho.com offers a full suite of web apps for the collaborative office environment. It's ingenious easy to use interface and instant sharing with co-workers blows Microsoft's Office out of the water. This is a true "Live Office". A few of the apps are not free if you go over a certain level of use, but that doesn't appear to affect the "small" user. They are even offering a MS Office Plug-in that lets you easily transfer between the two applications. Zoho.com includes Notebook, Writer, Sheet, Show, Wiki, Virtual Office, Projects, Customer Relations, Creator (Database), Planner, Chat, Polls, Website Monitoring, even Online Testing. Foxit is a super-light alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader. Its load time seems instantaneous compared to Acrobat. There is no lack of features either. Adobe Reader free windows software
OpenOffice.org is an open-source competitor to MS Office. It includes a word processor, spreadsheet, database, presentation, vector draw, and math programs. Its even compatible with all major office suites and their files. This is a must have for starving students.
