ThreatFire is designed to find malware, spyware, etc. by "bad behavior". It looks for abnormal steps in software installation and various other places to discover malware instead of updating constantly with lists of new names to look for.
It also prevents installation and stops destructive tasks before harm is done.
Spybot S&D is my personal favorite anti-spyware tool. I use this in conjunction with Ad-Aware SE to knock out all of the spyware, toolbars, and traking cookies. If your homepage has unexpectedly changed or you've found a new toolbar in your browser, you must get this program.

SpywareBlaster is a nice tool for blocking known spyware from being installed on your computer. Once you install it for either Firefox or IE or both, you'll never know its there, but it keeps you safe. I'm putting this in the "Must Have" category. spyware, malware, adware
The titles in the "Must Have" category are the ones you just can't live without. These apps are perfect for getting set up after that fresh install of XP or just fixing your in-laws computer.
Clamwin is a great antivirus program. It is very easy to use and set up. Don't use your computer without an antivirus! Compare this to Norton or McAfee antivirus products.
